November GeoDC Meetup: Election Mapping

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

The evening after Election day, we'll review how news agencies used maps in their election coverage - including their process, what worked well, and what didn't. We'll have presentations from several news organizations showing the election maps they are making, talking about the technology behind them, and discussing how they're using maps to tell the stories behind the election. We'll also have at least one talk focused on how to make maps with election data. The lineup will be (and we'll add to this as we confirm speakers):

  • Emily Chow from the Washington Post will talk about a project to map presidential campaign visits as well as the maps used in the Post's election night coverage.
  • Stan Wilson and Dave Cole will give a walk through of USA TODAY's election night maps. Made in JavaScript with D3.js, these dynamic vector maps bring live election results to a variety of web and mobile platforms.

GeoDC meets once a month on the first Wednesday of the month to socialize, network, and hear about the work people are doing with maps, GIS, and geodata. For updates, join this group and follow us on Twitter at @Geo_DC.

Please note that Stetson's is a bar, and therefore 21 and over. If you're underage and want to attend, message us and we'll do our best to get you in.
